Lonicera fragrantissima (Lonicera purpusii (Shrubby honeysuckle))

My winter-flowering honeysuckle is just coming into bloom.

Is it as fragrant as the name suggests?

Yes! I have two shrubs, one seems to keep its leaves, the other loses most of them, which I find strange. :-)))

My problem is that I am not nasty enough to them at pruning time - so one is getting like a tree in size!

So this one is a shrub and not a climber?

So dainty!

Thanks, Wagger - do you know this one?

Indeed it is, Toto! One is about 6' tall, and the other is errr....about twice that! I can't reach to prune it. They are great to have - just beautiful from now on. :-))

I've heard of it many times, Spritz particularly with reference to its perfume.

It's worth a space in your garden - if you've got any left, that is! LOL.

It's a lovely plant, and I agree worth a space in any garden :) It sits quietly, keeping itself to itself for most of the year, then suddenly bursts forth with the most amazing scented flowers....if you pick a sprig or two and put it in a vase it will scent a room :) Sadly, mine got too out of hand and I had to let it go a couple of years ago....:(

Definately a must have for the garden, especially this time of year :))))

Yes, it is! I inherited these shrubs and had to find out what they were, as they don't look much like the usual Honeysuckles.

Mind you, my L. periclymen is still flowering well :-)))
