My one and only medinilla is about to flower!

Bernieh:
Is this Medinilla magnifica (Melastomaceae family) or a Ginger (Zingiberaceae family)? It looks to me like a Medinilla because I grow
the species cummingii. Most Melastomes generally have veins in their
leaves.

Deloniz it is a medinilla magnifica - I've only just realised what I typed underneath! It was late at night - I was organising my photos on my computer as well that night and I have obviously got confused. Must be old age setting in (I'll have to go and change the wording). It's still exciting for me though because this is my first medinilla so I can't wait to see it flowering.

Bernieh:
I can completely relate. I've done the same thing...as I do most of my posting late at night.
Yes, they are a wonderful blooming plant...M. magnifica doesn't do very well here...as some of the other species. However, they are magnificent flowering plants. My plant has flowered several times over the years, even though it didn't bloom last year.
Do you grow your plant in the ground or as an epiphyte? In habitat they are an epiphytic plant.

Delonix this one is growing in the ground and just took off as soon as I planted it. First flower spray is bigger - can't wait.

I love ginger, but I am ignorant as to whether this is the plant that edible ginger comes from? Or is it just it's name Bernieh?
