I asked Delonix1 and he said they were edible. I'm still waiting for his answer about the flower whether I should cut it off or not. By the way, it seems the flower is also edible, although I don't fancy eating that :p

Yes, the male flowers at the end should be cut off. It takes nutrients from the bananas. The male flowers are edible, also. They cost a lot of money in the stores here in San Diego, CA. I don't know how to cook them, though. The male flowers are considered a delicacy in Vietnam and other Asian cultures.

It's heavenly!! Sliced Banana with vanilla pudding in a graham cracker crust, topped with whipped cream and sliced strawberries with hot tea or coffee.....heavenly!

I think they will be when they ripen, but aren't you suppose to cut that flower head off. I think I saw that on a documentary.
