Musa 'Golden Finger' - Golden Finger Banana Plant

Musa 'Golden Finger' - Golden Finger Banana Plant (Musa 'Golden Finger' - Golden Finger Banana Plant)

My Golden Finger bananas haven't done well in the last couple of years because of the horrible 6 year drought. Maybe this year since all the rain I'll get some nice bananas again. Photo taken May 23, 2017.

It looks like it's ready to start cranking out those bananas.

Bathgate:

It's not ready to flower yet. lol! It has to flower first then it'll produce bananas. It'll usually produce a leaf once a week from spring through fall.

The flower spike produced on this variety is absolutely gigantic!

Thrupennybit:

We had quite a bit of rain this past season in San Diego. Plants grew so much better this past winter and spring. This plant will have to triple in size before it flowers.

That's great they are growing better , I hope it triples for you and you get the size it need to flower.
Do you have rain barrels to catch the rain water when it rains .

Yes, my rain barrels are full from the rains of a couple weeks ago. I was so glad it rained...we typically don't receive rain in May, in San Diego.

That's good to hear to have them their we use them here to.
I bet you were glad it rained , yes the weather is no longer in sequence any more, I ve noticed that over here.

I had that- gophers got it with in a week of planting. It was about the time they first invaded...so,I try not to plant anything valuable close to the empty lot fence now.
What do you have going in the pot to the right?

Stan,

I have two Dypsis decaryi in that 5 gallon pot. I need to separate them. Dypsis decaryi grows so fast here. In Hayward it would grow so, so slowly. In Mission San Jose, Fremont I had really good growth in the ground, also. It always had to protect them against gophers. Gophers absolutely love Dypis decaryi!
