Nerine sarniensis 'Dark Copper'

Nerine sarniensis 'Dark Copper' (Nerine sarniensis (Guernsey Lily))

From the Exbury Collection. There is heavy diamond dusting, and it glitters when the full sun is out. This is sitting in a deep planter that has a lid. We are having strong winds with some rain, and I am attempting to cross it with my white Amaryllis belladonna, so I don't want the stems to get broken or the pollen to be washed away.

Very pretty colour, Wylie. It sounds really interesting too, never seen this plant before. Bet it looks lovely in the sunshine, glittering.

I am waiting for several others to open before doing a blog with all that open this year. I found 2 more today that have started to put up scapes.

Beautiful, Wylie! Hope you manage to get some viable seeds from your crossings! It would be very interesting to seee the results in 4-5 years?

I think there are some seeds starting to develop. I am ready to bring all the nerines with a flower stalk indoors tomorrow, just before Lorenzo hits.

Were you affected by Hurricane Lorenzo when it struck the Azores? It's due to "attack" the UK during the next 48 hours! Seems our region may get away with little more than some wind & some rain. We had been expecting severe winds & heavy rain overnight Thursday & in the evening of Friday. Now, however, it seems it won't be even half as bad as predicted a couple of days ago.

It passed by yesterday morning, 100 kms to the west of Corvo (an island in the Western group) but managed a top gust of 160 kph. I am on the north side of Terceira, with the Serra do Santa Barbara on the south side, where the wind came from. That is an inactive volcano 1000 meters up, so it has a pretty good wind shadow to protect where I am. It managed to destroy the pier and the waterbreak in the harbor of Corvo. Over on the island of Faial, 45 families are homeless after the waves crashed over a wall and into their houses. Strangely, I did not get a single drop of rain; and I measured a gust of wind at 50mph just up the street.

Ex-Hurricane Lorenzo is forecast to pass near our region overnight but it's not expected to bring more that some rain & wind, nothing out of the ordinary!

This is a really beautiful colour. I hope you managed to cross it with the A.belladonna. :)
