Those are very pretty, Dawn.
I grew passion flowers from seed earlier this year and hope they will flower in 2010. :o)

Thanks TT. The plant has been loaded with flowers for weeks now. I just hope it survives the winter. I hope yours flowers next year, they are so beautiful.

Blimey mine finished ages ago.

10 Oct, 2009

Mine has just started flowering. I had to cut it right down when the neighbours fence collapsed and I thought I had lost it. It suddenly sprouted again in mid summer and so far I have had about 5 flowers! I love them.

10 Oct, 2009

That was lucky Gee. I know you're in a warm spot, but do you protect it over winter?

10 Oct, 2009

No, I never have, Dawn. It's planted down a narrow side bit of garden so I think that protects it fairly well. I have had it now for about 5-6 years I think. I did have a white one but that didn't survive the cutback unfortunately.

I don't yet know what the flowers will look like on my plants...
a friend gave me one fruit from another plant, so it will be a big surprise. :o)

10 Oct, 2009

I like surprises :-)
Thanks for the info Gee, my is planted against the house, south facing but I dont know if that will be enough protection, I may wrap it with fleece.

10 Oct, 2009

You have a lovely display of them, this is the hardest of all I have had mine for years north facing and its never affected it either.

10 Oct, 2009

That's reassuring Morgana, thank you. I didnt realise it was the hardiest one, that's great news.

10 Oct, 2009

You will have load s of blooms all over the place and it will grow and grow lol, you can trim back or leave

10 Oct, 2009

It has plenty of room to ramble Morgana :-) How have you supported yours?

10 Oct, 2009

I just let it climb up a diamond shape wooden trellis, then after that it scrambles along the fence I will up load a picture if I can find it to show you the trellis is only small It s been uploaded for you to see Dawn

10 Oct, 2009

Dawn our is rambling up a huge laurel tree and has lots of arange fruits on now, which are delicious......Dont think you will need to fleece it though as its quite hardy....

10 Oct, 2009

Thanks Morgana, I'll look out for your photo.
Ours has had fruit Maureen but I didnt know they were actually edible passion fruit - I need some passion, lol. I'm so pleased it wont need protection. Maybe I need some trellis like Morgana as it growing up the house wall.

10 Oct, 2009

A neighbour has one here Dawn it was covered in heavy snow last year she trims it cuts it chops it and generally abuses it as doesnt like its rambling nature ...I know why have one then ? lol It grows well despite all this.

As for passion well you obviously working John too hard .. perhaps its why Milky lets Ray rest ?

11 Oct, 2009

Oooooo Bonkersbon lmao at your comment, do you really think Milky will agree with that ha ha ha he hehe.

11 Oct, 2009

Thanks for that Ray, I feel happier now I know its tolerant of most things.
Ha ha, maybe Ray's always tired due to much passion.

11 Oct, 2009

11 Oct, 2009

Ha ha , you guys make me smile.
Lovely arent they Deida.
Sandra: I'm sure if they can tolerate snow in Yorkshire, ours should be OK. :-)
Hope you're feeling OK.

11 Oct, 2009

No as Sandra s is a different one to yours, hers is the white one, even though its hardy, it s not as hardy as ours, hers is only young, so its best for her to weather it off next year.

11 Oct, 2009

hi dawn im doing ok thanx, did you have a good weekend in your garden?
morgana is right i will have to wait till next year to put mine out dawn :o))

11 Oct, 2009

Hope its OK Sandra. Maybe you could get this variety too :-)

12 Oct, 2009

yes that would be nice dawn, its finding room or them all thats the problem lol

12 Oct, 2009

We've set ours against the house Sandra, maybe you have room on a house wall :-)

12 Oct, 2009

Hi Dawn, lovely photo, ours is still well out in flower too, has yours got lots of fruit as well? I've been giving ours away to people so that they can grow their own.

12 Oct, 2009

Hi Bob, glad yours is flowering well too.I keep finding the dead flowers the ground and inside there are tiny fruits - maybe I should collect them then. What do you do with them Bob?

13 Oct, 2009

Hi Dawn, our fruit pods are as big as a large plum with many seeds inside. I just break them and spread the seeds on the top of the ground and just let them grow.

13 Oct, 2009

Thanks Bob, are the fruit pods ready to break as soon as they fall?
Is your an established plant? My fruit pods are quite small compared to yours - only as big as peas as opposed to plums, lol

14 Oct, 2009

Dawn I have put a photo on of a fruit, it is an established plant and when the fruit drops the birds peck them and spread the seeds around.

15 Oct, 2009

Thanks Bob, I've just seen your photo. Its a fascinating plant isnt it. Thanks for that.

That looks lovely Dawn , I'm regretting letting Tony pull ours out now !
it was growing up the front of the summer house and was ' taking over ' it was huge I liked it , it always had lots of the large orange fruits on it in the autumn , we didn't ever protect it in the winter .. we always found small plants growing nearby so it must easily seed its self .......

16 Oct, 2009

I think you'll have to get another one then Amy. I'm so pleased with everyones comments above, as I thought it wasnt going to survive the winter but I beginning to think this is a 'must have' climber :-)
