I shall cut this down to ground level in march to produce even bigger leaves next year. If left alone it would grow into a fantastic 80ft tree with brilliant foxglove like flowers.

I'd love one of these - but no room left!

I moved from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin last year and this was one of two trees in my new back yard. The previous owner had no idea what it was, and it took me some time to identify it, since it's the only one I've ever seen around here. It grows very fast once the warm weather arrives in May. It has never flowered, and it is now approximately 30 feet tall and gets huge fuzzy green leaves that are about 2 feet in diameter. I want to know how I can get it to flower, if it's not too cold here. Last winter we had temperatures that reached -30 degrees Fahrenheit.

"The foxglove-like flowers in erect panicles are outstanding, but are not produced until the plants are well established" ectract from Readers digest encyclopaedia of garden plants and flowers. 1975.
The book also say's stooled plants produce no flowers.
I would let him grow and hopefully one day you will be rewarded.
I saw my first Paulowina in the grounds of Cardiff Castle, it was in flower and looked fantastic.
Hope this helps.
