My Pink Phalaenopsis Orchid started blooming about two weeks ago. This plant was given to me from a friend who was going to throw it in the trash. I keep it outside until it start budding. Photo taken August 18, 2012.

Yes, all my orchids are grown outside. The only time I bring them indoors is when they're blooming.

Full sun or semi shade?

Most need semi-shade or dappled sun. The leaves can easily get burned in the intense hot sun here in San Diego.
My Oncidium 'Sharry Baby' orchid leaves are somewhat burned. I have some other orchids outside which have burned from this intense heatwave!
