Got this today at Focus for £3.50. It's only a baby, but I hope it grows as last year I lost one as soon as I planted it.

Seems to be San. Thanks Yorks, I'm not too confident, but worth a risk at that price.

A good price.....I had always believed these plants were hardy?

Yes, they are. I don't know why the last one died on me. It wasn't cold for sure, I planted it in the summer. It could have been weevils I suppose. Anyway, we'll see how this one does!

Oh oh!

I guess it means it will die then ): nevermind a replacement I feel ;)

I've no idea Paul, it may just shrug it off. It spoils the look of it though I suppose. I wonder what would happen if you chopped it back behind the black spots....don't do it, I've no idea what would happen!! lol

lol - leave the leaves :)

Actually I've had to massacre my big Photinas and now they are totally bare. I am relying on them to grow from new buds on the stems as they were so badly damaged in December and all the leaves were dead, with only a few left hanging on and looking awful. Time will tell Paul, time will tell! I shall be gutted if they don't regrow, as they are both big and one is like a tree!

yes I know Karen - we lost a Nandina and I was disgusted - baaah but maybe that will come back - but looks doubtful - but another shrub that went brown is greening up - so never know

Yes, lets hope they do recover!
