It's a perennial that doesn't tolerate cold conditions well, Helen, so while it would probably grow well outside during the warmer months you'd have to bring it in before winter sets in. It does well in either shade or partly sunny positions, and is quite thirsty. I'm not sure if this particular variety is available over there, but I do know that there are other varieties that gardeners have grown there.
