She has obliged and is in flower - growing up the old apple tree. She is thornless with a lovely scent.

One of my favourites as well, it is not a Rugosa type like Hansa etc. right Spritz? a very old type of rose? clue me in here people!!

No, it's a climber. Doon. I don't know how old it is, I'm afraid. Not an old-fashioned one, though.

I had one in my previous garden, growing over an archway... deliberately chosen for its scent and lack of thorns. Such a bonus in a rose! I just had to have one in this garden.
Here I have a yellow climber called 'Mermaid' and it is the thorniest rose I've ever come across - I get 'caught' every time I go near it and have a real job escaping from its clutches! lol.
