My Solanum suffered badly last winter, but it's beginning to produce some flowers now.

Yes, Vincent - just an alternative name, I believe.
Thanks, Fh.

Useful plants, solanum!

Mine is misbehaving, Lori - I'm going to ask a question about it. It's sending up shoots all over the flower border, not where it should! :-((

Oh dear! This is the vining type, isn't it? is it the one sometimes called Star of Bethlehem?
10 Aug, 2010
I haven't heard that name before, Lori...but yes, it's a climber - not a very reliably hardy one here.

this was the one I wanted, but seeing the frost damage on the plants at O, I decided to go with glasnevin as it's much hardier.
11 Aug, 2010
Yes, I'd agree, but be careful where you put Glasnevin - it still needs shelter and the warmest aspect you have.

thanks I have it growing at the base of a wall with full sun for most of the day, so I'm hoping it will be ok

Should be fine there. You saw mine! :-)

We have one these. I love those delicate little white flowers! Gorgeous pic, again, Spritz.

Thanks - Is yours rampant? Do you get any frosts over there, Pip?
17 Aug, 2010
No frost here, Spritz, at least not in our yard, and yes, they can get quite invasive! It's next to a Jasmine... my Jasmine :o)....and it seems as soon as we cut them back they go for each other again, trying to claim the best supports, strangling each other in a desperate bid to be top dog! {or top plant}
Then we cut them back and it starts all over again....
19 Aug, 2010
Last year I cut it back by two-thirds, and it still went over the top of the trellis and into the field behind to ramble around there! This year...hmmm..well, at least it's still alive.
I don't have any luck with Jasmine apart from J. nudiflorum. :-((
