Whey Hey! It's in flower! (Tibouchina urvilleana (Lasiandra))

My Glory Bush (Tibouchina Urvilleana) has made it into flower!!!
It's a shame that it's not sunny (it's pouring with rain actually) today as this photo doesn't do it justice. On a sunny day they're a sight to behold!

Thanks Cinders!
My camera has struggled with blues, but I've discovered a new setting and this is a true reflection of the colour.
So I'm double chuffed today - Tibouchina in flower and learnt something else about the camera!

My camera also struggles with mauves and pinks, but not being very technically minded I will have to wait for someone else to give me a hand with settings !

Wonderful ! I'm very pleased for you :D

Thanks Hywel! Having seen them in flower down in Cornwall a few weeks ago, it was all the more frustrating when the first bud blasted before opening!
One of my favourites of all, and a fantastic result for 99pence!

Better than expected!!!!
Did you think that I would let you down then!
I am made up with it though. Well worth the wait.

I knew you wouldn't let me down Meanie, you haven'y dissapointed me yet.

I'm plotting for next year already - wait and see what I have up my sleeve for then!

Hey that was a quick reply, you telling me what you are plotting or do I have to wait, knowing you it will be well worth waiting for,

A couple of tasters then: I'm looking at one or maybe two of the species Fuchsia from New Zealand. I've found one of the perennial Lobelia's that I was after. I've just repotted one of my houseplants, so hopefully that should flower next year. And I have the seeds for a couple of real exotics, so if they germinate I should have something special to show off over the next couple of years!

I hope they do germinate for you, the others sound intresting, I have just ordered a Magnolia, and a beautiful white peonie for my son in law, not exotic like yours though,

2 Oct, 2010

Exotic is not the requirement, they must be different or beautiful. One of the exotics is positively freaky!
I nearly bought a house when I moved just because it had a large mature Magnolia! I still have a perennial Lobelia to find.

have you looked on line for your lobelia,

Meanie:

Great shot as always! I love all the many species of Tibouchina...most are so floriferous!

As I drive around San Diego, I see all the Tibouchina semidecandra, heteromalla, urvilleana and grandiflora blooming now. They're spectacular! : > )

Now you're just showing off!!!!!

Meanie:

Can't help it...they're so commonly grown here. LOL!
: > )

I forgot to add the occasional Tibouchina granulosa...once you've seen this tree in bloom...you'll definitely want one. It has mauve-colored flowers. I used to have three trees at one time.

Wow Meanie, its so beautiful,as if made of a purple satin.

Thank you Camillia - satin is just the word to describe it!
