There is a worrying article on the homepage of the RHS website regarding a gall mite that is attacking Fuchsias around the country.

Totally agree, especially as I was looking forward to buying one of those lovely New zealand species for the garden.

Would that be procumbens? I once had one in a hanging basket...very quirky flowers....

Oh dear...
GD - my F.perscandens is not as hardy as I was hoping. The outer leaves are very sad after that first frost so will certainly need full winter protection. Not that it will put me off it though.

Not sure I would try F. procumbens, but I was looking forward to trying F.perscandens. I have a "3 trys and you're out" rule for plants in the garden and I don't do winter protection, except for moving the Pelargoniums I have in pots, into the kiddies playhouse for the winter (there is a roof but the 'windows' are not glazed so the wind can still get in).

F.procumbens is a small plant - probably a windowsill plant in the winter GD.

Might have a go with one on one of my side garden beds, near to the Kiwi fruit and the Myrtus ugni.
