The title of this blog is:
Whether the weather be dry or whether the weather be wet, we’ll just have to take the good with the bad and make do with whatever we get!
After browsing the private weather websites, the consensus of opinion for this summer is often cool, sometimes wet, and a bit of warm sun in between.
Thats fine by me: goodness knows the plants could do with some rain.
But what has got me thinking is a long range forecast for the coming Autumn and Winter…….
I wouldn’t be too worried normally but the winter forecast last year by the same weather website was very accurate.
So, here it is.
Autumn 2011 – Winter 2012
These are the latest long term projections produced by the PWS System.
September 2011 – Warmer than average; slightly wetter than average.
October 2011 – Slightly colder than average; slightly wetter than average.
November 2011 – Slightly colder than average; on the average for rainfall.
December 2011 – Slightly colder than average; on the average for rainfall.
January 2012 – Substantially colder than average; slightly wetter than average.
February 2012 – Substantially colder than average; slightly wetter than average.
Should we start making plans for the winter?
I will be keeping an eye on the forecast for the next few months and getting stocked up with mulch.
Happy gardening!

As a met office trained weather observer, I should really take it with a pinch of salt, but I will be pouring over my records for the past 25 years just to see if there is anything to look out for.....
On the plus side (for me anyway) the past 2 winters have been great for snow, my second favourite weather type after thunderstorms.

Didn't Hilda also say something along the lines of " I'm stood standing...."
Anyway, my prediction for the coming winter is a lot of dry, very cold, frosty weather with some snowfall for the north, east and south east. This weather pattern will start early January and last well into February.
You heard it here first!!
