Look what the wind blew in!

Just a really quick blog to show you what landed on my garden fence the other evening.
A swallow!!

The poor little bird was exhausted as it dropped onto the top of the fence post and stayed there for about an hour.
It then flew off after having a drink from the soap dish water drinkers-cum-bird baths on the fence post.

I haven’t seen any swallows at all this year: this was the first!

Anyway, off for some tea then early to bed as the mini buses taking me and the other 20 odd walkers leaves at 4am for the Yorkshire Dales. Yes, its my charity walk and this time I am doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.

Happy gardening!!

Great pic, he does look absolutely done in, doesn't he. 4 am? I've only been in bed an hour by then usually... good luck on the walk.

That photo - and swallow are just beautiful. All the best for your walk. Don't suppose you will have time to take photos as you walk - perhaps you can tell us what it was like, when the blisters have healed!

He is lovely. My OH was in the Merchant Navy instead of doing National Service and said the swallows used to roost in the rigging to have a rest. We have had fewer and fewer swallows over the last 30 years. We have only seen one brood hatch this year which is very disappointing. It is so important to have water available for the birds. Have a lovely walk. The weather does not look to promising in the dales.

There were lots of swallows dipping and diving everywhere on the island of Islay a few weeks ago but there aren't any here.

Do you do night shifts bamboo? That's incredibly late or is it early?
