Halfway through the year.

We are now about halfway through the year, and what a 6 months we have had!!

It started off with another cold winter and loads of snow in December which was great for the kids (and me!) but played havoc with the transport system, heating, wildlife and plant life.

Some photos of the main road and countryside in front of my house. These were taken before the heavy snow came and blocked the road….

The snow does look good though!

January comes around and the snow disappears leaving the gardens bare but well watered!

After some more snow, February comes and the ground is drying out, and plants are peeping above the ground hoping its safe to come out.
But by the end of March, some warm weather had arrived and the plants had started growing really well…..

April came along but forgot to bring the usual showers: instead we got dry and warm weather. An early summer some folk said…. probobly the only summer we will get this year! But back to the blog….
May continued in the same vein, and didn’t the flowers love it?

And now its June. After the government declared drought conditions in some part of the country, its rained and rained…… but we need it. We have had late frosts and some snowfall on the Scottish mountains!
Its been a strange year so far weather wise.

The plants are still growing away happily and they seem to be getting back into their normal routine.

So, what will the next 6 months bring?
Will there be more strange weather?
Is summer going to arrive or has it gone on holiday?
Is winter waiting to wrap its icy hands around our plants?

Whatever happens, lets enjoy the next 6 months in the garden and cherish every moment we have with our beloved plants.

Happy gardening!!

You're right Sticki! The hawthorn hedges over here are absolutely laden down with berries, and every year that has happened, the weather has been atrocious! G.Dad your blogs great, and your photos are lovely! Is that lovely purple geranium with the black eye, Ann Folkard?

Lovely blog and photo's, beautiful passion flowers- mine haven't flowered yet! :-)

Thank you all for the comments.
The red Geranium is Geranium psilostemon: I have 2 large clumps which are flowering really well. A great Geraniumf or the back of the border.

The passion flowers are newly bought this year: I lost mine after the last winter. I have a normal caerulea, the white flowered version and the lovely lilac one.

Its funny how 6 months to Christmas sounds ages away but 5 more paydays makes it sound almost upon us!

Yes the weather's been awful on the whole but the thing is to do the best we can with it. I hope we get some summer soon though lol - and never any more snow and frost !!

Summer is popping by this weekend but only briefly as it will be gone by Wednesday. A word of warning to everyone: the hot and humid conditions will lead to some torrential downpours and spectacular thunderstorms, especially later on Sunday and Monday.
