I get this every year on my Acers to some extent. This is quite bad. But if you cut back the dead matter, it will be fine I think. Is it in quite an exposed spot?

I did think I should cut it back and hope for the best.it is a bit exposed but I have a red one in my front garden which is more open and it’s doing great .luck of the draw I suppose.
Today I thought what’s going on,I have a chocolate vine growing over pergola and noticed today some yellow leaves with black on them.its not good soil here but will have to give it a feed and hope it will be ok.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
The photos are ok but it takes me ages to do it.I suppose practise makes perfect.

I've found the dark red leaved Acers can tolerate full sun,but the green leaved ones are happier in partial shade....as K has said I would cut it back to where there is growth and give it an acid liquid feed.
