Is the Winter over?

I have such a lot of signs saying yes but mother nature can be cruel and just when we think that it is all over Jack Frost knocks on our doors and runs away laughing. I am trying to remember how to do this blog as senior moments have settled into my brain and stolen my memory. I just wanted to show you how things are doing in my plot.
These Hyacinths have a great perfume.

Well that seems to have worked so here is the next pic.

That seems to have gone ok! I am sorry that I don’t know the botanical names.
These tulips are always such an early flower and very welcome.

Sadly these crocus were dashed by the rain and I was enjoying them!

I did think I planted some crocus in the top but maybe not …..:)

The vivid blue of these dosen’t show up in this picture, I really must remember to save the names.

I love these dwarf variety daffs, nodding happily at the side of our pond.

Our fish have all survived the ice and snow thank godness and are now feeding again.

These are such pretty little flowers (I do’t know their name!) I daren’t lean over the water any further or I might have been in the pond so I didn’t get a very good picture.

I wasn’t too sure if these lovely Cyclamen would perish left outside so I brought the pot into my porch and they have flowered all Winter and are still in bloom.
Can someone please tell me do I have to rest the corms when flowering is over?
Am I right in my assumtion that they are grown from corms?

My Christmas rose has arrived in March a little dashed now with rain but still pretty. It is one label I have kept and the name is Helleborus niger.

I have shown mostly planting in pots as this is a way of doubling up on my small plot. When the Spring bulbs are over I will use the same pots for Summer annuals.

My concentration has now gone so I will leave well alone and press the final button.

Lovely photos grannysue, and a great blog. Your senior moment certainly didn't spoil anything.
Some lovely colours, and I love your stream. Does it feed the pond?
I agree about Frost though, I just heard on the weather forecast that next week is to be colder. Brrr.

Ref Cyclamen yes to both questions

Lovely to see bulbs in flower - it really is spring, in spite of wet and chilly weather! Could those pretty blue flowers be Chionodoxa?

Some lovely photo's grannysue, I love your pond. The fish look big, have you had them a long time?
Yes, we are still getting frosts here. Nearly April.....

I agree with the others - what lovely photos - well done :-))

I think just enjoy it when we can, lovely morning and pouring rain now and don't forget " ne'er cast a clout 'til may be out" :o)

lovely photos:)

thankyou to all you lovely people for your very kind comments. I appreciate each and every one. I never had any doubts about you being helpful and understanding my 'magic' moments lol
I nearly choked on that name Spritz but I have written it down nonetheless and will keep it to show off when the next visitor asks me what it is called ;))))

BJS Thankyou for the info about my Cyclamen I will be tipping the pot on it's side to dry the corms when the flowers finish, hoping that is the right thing.

Mad yes the water is pumped up to the filter box and then down the stream back into the pond. A very relaxing noise!

Pottygardener yes the fish are big and we have had them a lot of years, we love to sit beside the pond in good weather and just watch them swim lazily round their pond. If you look back at my blog "you may need hiking boots to walk round my garden" you will see just how small our garden is. The pond takes up half of our plot.

Lovely blog and photo`s, it might only be small but you obviously make full use of it, I love sitting by my pond listening to the babble of the water, you are so right its very relaxing, saying that today it was drowned out by the noise of the frogs, LOL.......

Dont rush with the drying off thoes corms need to build up energy for there next flowering keep them moist not wet untill the end of may then give them 3 months on there side and re pot around the end of August, just a small amount of water untill they start to grow.

Plenty of interest in your garden Grannysue, really enjoyed the pictures and running water in a garden is always a joy.

Well done on compiling such a great blog Sue and it looks like you've got to grips with that camera! Your stream and pond are really lovely and i can see why you didn't want to hang the bird feeders near it. I've had some pink Chinodoxa for several years , also bought some blue ones last year. They look very pretty mixed together.

Hi Lily thankyou for your kind comments. I was a jibbering wreck this morning trying to remember what to do but finally light flooded the old brain and I gradually worked it all out. I think Spring bulbs are so easy to give such wonderful colours and shapes. The camera is great but I must admit I haven't really got very far through the menu. I want instant results and haven't got the patience to read all that manual, how about you? love Sue x

Well you managed to write a lovely blog with lots of nice photos for us to see :o)) I enjoyed it.

Thank you Hywell for you nice comments.
I once visited a friend In Sussex and she took us to see a whole village full of moved and re-build dwellings and it was fabulous. I couldn't tell you exactly where it was as it is well over 20 years ago. I will ask her as we still communicate by letter and e mail. love Sue

That's intereesting

Grannysue - could it have been The Weald and Downland Museum in Singleton, near Chichester ? If so, it's a wonderful place to visit. : o )

26 Mar, 2010

I think your pond is lovely

26 Mar, 2010

Not sure Megan perhaps there are more of these great places than we realise. You could very well be right and as I am in the midst of writing to my friend I will ask her and let you know.
Donnah thankyou so much. I really enjoy it in the Summer but hasten past it in the Winter because I feel so very sorry for our poor fish gazing at me from beneath the ice. Yes I know they are ok and probably not as cold as me as I dash to the compost bin or dustbin and back lol. Love Sue x

I love the water feature, it looks so natural flowing down to the pond. I especially like the Hellebores as they are one of my favourite plants. :o)

31 Mar, 2010

Thankyou Lab I appreciate your kind comment. My Hellabore hasn't come out in it's usual white Petals this year. Yes it is used to the cold and snow and normally looks as white as the snow but this time it has rained so heavily it is as if the whiteness has been washed out. lol love Sue

Mmmm.....know what you mean about the camera manual Sue. I've learnt a few things little by little but I'll never be able to get to grips with it all.....and these are 'simple' cameras? LOL

I am just too impatient Lily never read distructions on any new item until I have tried myself to work it. THEN I look at the appropriate passage but still it doesn't make sense. One of my daughters generally has a look at what ever new thing and can immediately make sense of it , old age and senior moments have robbed me of clear thinking . lol Love Sue x

4 Apr, 2010

clear thinking - what's that Sue? It's so much easier if someone else reads the book then shows you what to do! When I've sussed something out I write it down in my own language as I won't remember how until I've done it lots of times - same with computer. (and video) :o((

Here here Lily lol

lovely spring pics sue, all looks great ;o))

Thanks Sandra I love the Spring when all the bulbs appear as if by magic and paint the drab Winter garden with wonderful colour. I tried earlier to put some more pictures on but sadly I made a mess of the job. I am not too clever on the old computer.I will have another go.

7 Apr, 2010

lol dont worry sue, just take a deep breath and take your time ;o))

Thanks Sandra :~))))
