Front lawn "makeover".

A gentle hint to John. “That front lawn could do with a bit of a rake”. Pained expression from across the room.I let him mull over that for a while until it became his suggestion! Then armed with tools and camera of course we struggled out of the door. First task raking, to rid the grass of all the moss and dead grass etc.

“The aerating now”. “What?” “You know, I told you”. A very pained expression! Like the trouper he is he got stuck in. John only normally looks after the mowing and cutting the privet hedge in the back garden, which I have to say he does very well.

“The round shape has disappeared again it really needs some of your magic”. Can a man really have so many pained expressions? Of course, not being a gardener he doesn’t think of the bigger picture so please all of you fab male gardeners I am not including you in this.
A ball of string attached to a stick in the centre of the grass and thus we created the circle. (I always end up with a little bit more soil he! he!) I followed him round with a bag of flour to define the shape now ready to be edged. He is very good at this job too!

“Now of course it all needs a good feed and weed and we should be done.” If the wind had changed at that juncture I would have had my very own gargoyle. Poor man!

The msg on the box says it all!! Complete. Well it was for him I had some weeding and planting up to be getting on with.

A job well done so now we wait for the ‘stuff ’ to do it’s work and we will have a beautiful, lush green lawn for the summer.
Whilst John had been mulling over the job ahead I had put up my canes and twine to support the Blue and white Delphiniums which grow tall. They usually take me by surprise at their rate of growth but this year I got them before they ‘take’ off.

Chuckle, chuckle ... I think my hubbie has THE widest range of pained expressions when it comes to doing 'that gardening stuff'!! He could be your hubbie's twin with that look in photo 2.

You've both done a fabulous job ... it's looking great already and I'm sure the lawn will be beautiful.

Thankyou so much. John is a good lad and always comes to my rescue but just has to 'perform' before getting on with it!

Mine's the same! Grass-cutting and digging out unyielding roots. You'd think I'd asked for the moon when I suggest the the grass needs cutting! lol. Rolled up eyes - 'that' face, yes, I know..........

What a big front garden; sorry folks I know I'm always commenting on size. Lovely garden and hubby helping is a bonus!

A good ploy that, making a suggestion, waiting for it to take root and come out as their idea (which means of course, that it's a good one!). It looks like you've got him well trained Sue, hope he didn't tread on any poor unsuspecting plants in the process. Now he knows what to do perhaps you could send him down here to do mine - I'm good at ignoring sour looks! Lol

At least your hubby does things for you - trying to get my boys to help is a nightmare at the moment (typical teenagers just because they are on holiday they think they can stay in bed till 11 and then ask whats for breakfast!!) you have to tend to bribe them or better still get threaten to show the new girlfriend his baby pictures!!!!! (worked a treat!!)

Well done to hubby John for doing a great job with the lawn. I am trying hard to teach my hubby about plants but I think he`s really content to do the heavy work for me. He does suprise me sometimes though by remembering the names of some plants. :o)

Pained expression or not he`s certainly done a grand job, I just love that 2nd snap shot.

you have to set the seed in mens minds ...... they get it eventually ! lovely photos

Thanks Lab, it is me that can't remember names mostly. If John learns one name it is given to every plant in the garden. ;0))))
Thanks Stroller he is not as reluctant as he makes out, and I don't ask for his help very often in the garden, only when I can't manage.
Thanks Viv if we suggest something in passing it germinates in their brain and then of course it was their idea!!!!

How we all seem to have "been there, done that".It must be a gene they are born with.Lol.I must admit,Russell isn't a plants man either, but does the lawn and edges,so thats a good help,as I don't like cutting the grass anyway.! I enjoyed your blog,Grannysue, and it made me smile...

Thanks bloomer I am pleased you enjoyed my blog.

To tell the truth it nearly didn't get to publish status. I was having a bad episode of trying to upload my pics and they were too big? With great joy I had some expert help and advice and tra la la it happened I learnt a new trick and was able to complete. :0)))))
Happy as Larry yeh!

You have a nice shaped lawn now :o) It will look great in the summer. Good idea to get a bit more earth too lol

Yes that's the problem with good cameras Sue, pics usually too big even with the new raised GoY limit and I always forget to resize before I try to add them to the blog. Like you say another skill learned - just got to remember how to do it next time! LOL

Hahaha....funny blog, it's nice to know mine is not the only bloke to pull a face when, infrequently, asked if he could do something remotely DIY or gardening!!!

Your garden is looking nice now, I'm sure you'll show us what you plant in that extra bit of soil.....

Thank you Hywel, yes we are very pleased to get the lawn shape back again and I was beaming as I saw "MY" bit of earth uncovered ready to plant up. Been busy this week (more preperations for daughters wedding) so will have to wait a few days before I can get planting.

Lily Yes the camera did cause a bit of anxiety as I didn't understand the technology bit of how pictures could be differnt sizes! I had some help from a GOY member abd I e mailed the site and Peter kindly set me straight about what to do so now I am a little further on with the techno stuff. :0)))

Potty thank you for your kind comments. John always comes up trumps after his gurning session. He is very good at DIY and the garden bits that he does.Ha Ha.I have some plants in pots ready to pop into my lovely new space. I bought them weeks ago and potted them to "be getting on with it".

Funny how the men are actually good at doing the jobs, they just like a bit of a moan/face pull first!

I'm intrigued by your description of your husband as a non-gardener, I'm sure I saw him in the garden! If I mention the garden jobs to mine a vague look comes over him which remains with him till the topic changes.

BrillIant! John has my sympathies! I'm not a lawn gardener, myself, but I guess that having a partner who is, imposes certain annual duties!
