Another Walk to Wynberg Park

Still summer here on Easter Friday, the shops are closed so I might as well walk up the hill to the Park.
1. Westward along Alexandra Rd just south of the school – some pleasant shade along here.
2. Looking downhill in the park – the white flowers centre foreground are some of the ‘gingers’ of legend…
- A deceptive picture : it’s a long way down the hill, the flowers are much taller than they look, about six ft.
3. March Lilies
These flowers come up in many gardens during March every year. There are no leaves at all, the stems shoot up to about knee height carrying buds only, then the buds open… see photo 6.
4. Top View of March Lilies
5. More Lilies
6. Lilies coming up
7. The road home
The conical mountain on the horizon is about 50 miles away. It looked clearer through my sunglasses, so I took the photo through them.

Seriously, Heron, there is something to be said for a bit of bad weather... I did live in England for a two-year stretch... a bit more exciting perhaps ? Or maybe we need more stress...
Yes, Clarice, the world is always changing, I am not sure it is always in the right direction... usually not !

Stress, what's that? I've been retired 10 years :-)))

Gb will you stop going on about the hot weather your having...Are you
trying to Depress us all LOL What a lovely walk, you had, lovely scenery
i wish all my walks were as pretty...Those lillies looked really strange
without the leaves, looked naked!! Still beautiful though,,: >)))
Nice pics..Thanks..

Yes, Fp, flowers without leaves are exceeding strange - goes against all the propaganda I was taught at school - what was that story about chlorophyl needed to create cell material? And these lilies rocket up like mushrooms ! Only much higher !

It all looks very nice in the sunshine. Have a happy Easter :o)

Thanks Hywel, you too ! :o)
Following up your tip, Uma, I looked up the entry for Amaryllis Belladonna in Wikipedia and am now a lot wiser. No more mystery... the leaves come at a different season, and are gone long before the flowering. For me it is of course of special interest that this species originates right here where I am ! No wonder I see them everywhere.

Thanks, San !
Thanks again, Uma, apparently this plant favours what is called a "Mediterranean Climate", which is what we have right here. (and in some other places, such as California and Perth (Australia), as well as the countries round the Mediterranean Sea) - moderately cold (no snow) winter rainfall with dry, warm, sunny summers.

Thanks for the info, Gurth! Any chance to grow outdoors where I live...:) But it's a good houseplant.

I was feeling down because of the cold weather, I feel worse now :-)) All that warm sunshine, can you send me some. I think I'd like your climate just like your Lilies.
