hi i was browsing on the web and accidentally found this site and decided to join.
at the moment the best things happening in my garden are my fruit trees. i have a plum, an apricot and a yellow nectarine and all seem to be going to produce quite good crops this year :-)
i am in the process of planning a new garden area with the use of tyres. i use tyres for my vegetables and i practically grow my vegetables in purely pea straw. i also grow potatoes in tyres in pea straw. they come out wonderfully clean :-) and no digging required. the pea straw keeps the moisture up to the plants during the heat. the rim at the base of the tyre acts like a self watering bowl. plus i recycle the pea straw back into my compost heap.

Welcome from a fellow Aussie. I'm up in north Queensland and have popped into this site quite regularly during the last two years. I'm sure you'll find everyone very friendly and helpful here. It's great to find out what gardeners all over the world are doing.

I've seen the tyres used up here, but used for trees, shrubs and annuals as well as vegies. Sounds like you've got it all worked out brilliantly though.

How's the weather in your part of SA? Are you getting the rain that seems to be pelting down in so many parts of the country?

Here's another welcome for you .
I've never heard of pea straw but I do grow potatoes in big tubs. Better for my arthritis than digging.
