Fall Close Out Sales!

I thought my hubby would have a heart attack on Wednesday when we went to Lowe’s…they had a 50-75% 0ff sale on all plants! Well I got to work picking things out….. a coupla Crimson Pygmy Barberries and a coupla Emerald and Gold Euonymus’……

So we get in the pick-up truck to drive home, and we are talking. He decides that we need a few more bushes to make a full hedge across the front of the property….So back to Lowe’s I go and buy some more Crimson Pygmy Barberries (10 in all) and had to settle for some Rose Glow Barberry (different look – 8 in all)

So we were out planting them today (friday) and he gets another idea….we need to landscape the front of the house….So off to Lowe’s again. This time the list is a bit different…

2 Deep purple flowered Butterfly Bushes

1 Korean Lilac

2 First Red Hydrangeas

2 more Emerald and Gold Euonymus’

3 Burgandy Cordyline grasses

30 Wild Tulip bulbs

60 grape hyacinth bulbs

Now we are still working on the skirting (which has another blog coming next week) and I have a round 2 tiered raised bed garden that I was already building….when am I supposed to get all this in the ground?!?!?!?!?
Guess I better turn on the flood lights and go back out and work after dark too….LOL

Your husband sounds like my knind of man Healerwitch !!!!
Regularly suggesting buying plants ..... good man ;-)))

Is Lowes a local garden centre to you ?

I'm interested in how your Cordyline grasses look like ?
We can buy Cordylines but they make small trees.
Also your First Red Hydrangeas, i'm wondering if they're similar to our ordinary Hydrangeas - are they Mop Heads or Lace Caps ?

Would love to see some photos, i think where pictures were, here in the blog, may have been deleted because there's just funny red and blue small boxes.

I can't see pics either :o(
What's wrong ?

Good luck with all your planting !

I can't either what a shame. you certainly got some bargains.

No photos here, either, HW. But that's a very impressive shopping trip!

24 Oct, 2009

You got some great bargains there........

24 Oct, 2009

was there supose to be pics or just a lst of what healerwitch got? you got plenty though, well done :o))

24 Oct, 2009

Well ya'll I don't really know what those funny red and blue boxes are...I had one and went back to edit (just to see what it might be) and it added another one!

I will add pics soon....but it is raining again (fall you know!) so I have to wait.

As to whether the hydrangeas are mopheads or lacecaps...I haven't a clue...they were labeled with a stick! not even the Latin name included. But I love the color red...and had never seen a red hydrangea...so it is an experiment! The bushes are less than a 1 foot ball right now, so quite young..I am hoping to get flowers next year, but.....

Lowe's is actually a large hardware stare, with a very large garden center as part of it. It is the closest store of any kind that carries plants, so I go often...lol

Quite a good haul!

24 Oct, 2009

Some lot of planting to do there! Have fun!

Those little squares happen when you delete a photo - is that what happened?

You did buy a lot......but why not, at such good prices! :-)

24 Oct, 2009

I didn't add pics to delete any pics...so I do not known why they did that! Oh well....

Louise...just did a little online research into this new hydrangea and found this note...

"A great red Hydrangea that will
bloom reliably in the north. This
plant has brilliant red blooms and
burgundy red stems. The mophead
flowers begin blooming red and then
fade to a nice shade of purple. This
is the first red flowered Hydrangea
that we know of that blooms on new
growth. Fully hardy, this plant is sure
to be a winner in northern gardens."

Can't wait to see it in bloom now!

HW~ I live near Wilkes-Barre, PA, just 2 hrs north of Harrisburg! When not shopping at other nurseries in my area, my neighbor and I are scouting the bargains at the garden center at Lowe's and Home Depot! You certainly got some fantastic bargains back in October~ they should be beautiful next year! Lisa :)

16 Nov, 2009

Lisa...I have 2 kids living in Harrisburg, and a Mom and sister and her family just in Camp Hill! What a small world. And actually got more than what is listed above...add to the list

4 more euonymus'
1 granny smith apple tree (for less than 25% of original price. It was only $5)
1 ninebark
1 red wigela
and even more bulbs!

Have all but 2 plants in now and a handful of the bulbs left to go in!
Should look different next year! Good luck in your search...
