Old Garden/New Garden...an ongoing project!

I have never done a blog before but I think it might be cathartic to do this one!
We bought this 5 bedroomed house 5 years ago, on re-marriage and almagamation of two families…5 children, 4 of whom were still at home! I did not like the house and hated the garden even more…but we urgently needed 5 bedrooms! I had spent 20 years on my last garden and it was exactly as I wanted it, complete with raised beds, large pond, masses of trees, shrubs and perennials.
This was the garden after we had re-fenced it and I had painted it blue…much to my new husband’s amazement. It is a large “L” shape…this is only one view of it, seen from the back of the house. The other part runs all along one side of the house…photo later!
I was still teaching full time and found it difficult to juggle house/garden/job and all the attendant problems of a new marriage and increasing ill health. I still want to move house as all 5 children have now flown the nest, although I look after one of the 4 grandchildren every other week.
The garden had never been cultivated. It was a football pitch for 3 boys…and a girl!…and that was it. It lacked trees and was devoid of plants…the soil was pure grit. I despaired!
I have spent the last few years trying to put it into some sort of shape as we will sell up in the next couple of years. Any further ideas on developing it further would be welcome…I still have not got a pond or water feature! Any ideas would be welcomed on WHERE I can site a water feature!
Below is what it is like now.
We laid a patio in Cotswold stone here…
This Acer was planted in 2005….
This is the Clematis Montana…growing like topsy!
I adore hostas…

Running out of time! ….just a selection of some photos taken this Spring.

There is still a lot to do before we sell…but I feel better about it already, although I am still grieving for the garden I left behind! LOL.

LOL at Valadel! I am still doing the RHS Horticulture...haven't even started the Garden Design yet...I wish I had the time.
My husband is tired of my continual comparisons with my last garden...I've really got to button my lip now, I feel, or he will explode soon!
I lack enthusiasm for this one but it still needs to be done for selling purposes! I think I will add a water feature...heaven knows where.... but somewhere within sight of the main patio perhaps.
You're all very kind...as usual!

Just found your blog Lizzy, You have certainly done really well. I understand the way it gets when there are still many parts of the garden not to your liking and you want to put them first, but if you work for Mother Nature you get paid by Father Time or so I was always told.

Your garden looks really nice Izzy, you have done a great job there. I grow a lot of my plants in containers, wooden troughs and pots. You have more control over them then especially the things that spread quickly. Also if you have poor ground it is easier to fill up a few troughs and plant your flowers (and veg) in there. ;-)

Thank you kindly..I'll be asking you THEN, Richard...about the veg! I used to grow vegetables when the children were little...forgotten all I knew! You certainly have some beautiful plants...been looking at your photos!

Thanks Izzy I only have a smallish garden but pack in as much as I can. I have even attached lengths of troughing to the side of my shed where I grow lettuce, chives and flowers :-)
