Counting my blessing not my weeds.

Hi all, in the short time I’ve been a member of this site you all will have notice I’ve mainly had a one track mind. The dreadful W word. While I was in the garden yesterday, the sun was out and the dogs and cat where keeping me company, I sat looking around. Yes this garden had been unloved for years but that was not alway the case. The last owners had lived here for 40yrs and over that time had planted some beautiful plants and with time I will get on top of it. In my back garden I have 2 mature Victoria plum trees that last year just after we moved in gave me so many plums I didn’t know what to do will them all and every visitor went home with a bag full. Fingers crossed looking at them now this year will be the same. I have damson, crab apple and an apple tree, and other two apple trees in the front garden. The poppy that you all helped me save from my hubby :-). An old grape vine that survived my 1st every attempt at pruning. Roses and the list goes on. 2 years ago when we told friends and family our plan to move to the midland from a village just outside of Tunbridge Wells called Pembury they all though we were mad. Even the Banks thought the same and all turned us down for a mortgage. We didn’t give up and found this cottage with a bigger then the house workshop and moved up and have proved them all wrong. Our business is busier then ever and we are booked up already till the end of July. This move has ment that I gave up my job and now get to spend a lot of time in my garden. The people here have been so welcoming and made me feel at home from the start. My younger daughter made the move as well and now only lives down the road in a rented housd with her partner and joined our company. For her having her 1st garden has ignited an interest in gardening as well. Still not bothered with flowers but this year growing a alot of vegetables for the 1st time. I want to thank Samjp, one of the other members who also has horsetail, who contacted me and gave me hope. I took couple of pictures. Just don’t look at the grass, side effect of having dogs but at the end of the day I love where I am now! Jen:-)
Behind the hedge you can see the back of the workshop. There is also a greenhouse, chicken run, sheds and veggie plot. Haven’t started there so not taken any pics. The half barrow is a left over from last owners and I plan to do something with it next year.
Don’t worry, I’m not trying to grow plastic bottles, it has a sprayed W××× under it.

Its good to hear you did make the right move in spite of your friends' advice! Your garden looks much tidier that You've made it sound with all your weed problems! I wish I live close enough to beg some of those plums...

Lol. Wish now I had taken some before and after photos. The beds with the poppy and then the rose filled my garden bin and then quite a few sacks with what I took out of them. Glad that all my hard work shows. :-). Last week filled my bin again then 8 sacks before took took pics. If you did live closer you would be most welcome to some plums Steragram.

You are already happy there and just imagine as you get the garden more and more as you want it.Its good that you haven't just gone in and taken everything out.You have lots of gems that someone has loved and nurtured.

Jen that was a lovely thing to say, I'm glad to have helped.
Your garden is already looking lovely, it looks a beautiful place and I'm sure it will look even better once you've put more of your own ideas into it. Enjoy yourself.
If your where I think you are there's a lovely garden centre not that far away - bridgemere - it's on the Derby, Shropshire border. Huge place, big garden centre with a fabulous plant selection (it's a wyvale place so not especially cheap), plus a few other shops like Lakeland and hobby craft. I'm fairly sure they have gardens as well but we've never been round them.

Hi Paul, yes a lot of lovely gems and think with my last week push have turned the corner with the other stuff, still not saying the W word ?.
Sam, I've already found it ?. Been there couple times. As you say bit pricey but they allow dogs in all the shops other then Lakeland and Hobby craft. From what I've read on your blogs like you I do a lot of baking so Lakeland has always been a favourite.

Glad you're enjoying it, looks lovely :-))

Haha your way ahead of me then. Glad you found it. Another one that might be within a reasonable drive is a place called Jacksons nursery which is in Bagnall in Stoke on Trent. A lot smaller, but independently run and not as pricey. A nice garden to visit round there (sort of, we pass it on the way to bridgemere) is the Dorothy Clive gardens in willoughbridge in Shropshire. Beautiful place.
I don't do as much baking these days, just don't have time. Lakeland is a good one to visit though. I had a great time at the cake show at the NEC a couple of years ago.

Sorry stera - it is a lovely place, but then so is where you are now.
I've got a load of photos from our visit to Dorothy Clive the other year, I'll have to see about posting them for you.

Jen: I really envy you all that fruit. At the moment my little cherry tree has two cherries on it! Love plums but too late now to plant fruit trees.
Weeds or no weeds your garden looks good to me.

Eirlys thank you so much for your kinds comments. 1 of the trees in the middle in the back garden is a cherry but I don't think we will get any as the birds are busy eating them all which I don't mind. We have 4 nests in the garden and I could and have spent hours just watching them. They seemed to last year leave the plums alone.
