What a difference from last year

One of the things I like about Fb (there’s not many😂) is when you get reminders from a year ago. The memory that came up this morning was photos of my garden I had taken and posted a year ago today. it really made me realise how the warmer May last year had brought my garden so much further along then this wet, cold May. so I took some photos this morning to compare and here they are.
1st is my Laura Ford rose this day in 2020.

Seaburngirl, it is. I knew my garden was behind from last year but hadn't realised by how much till these photos came up this morning. As gardeners, we are probably never happy with the weather but I agree, somewhere between the two would be nice lol.

That was a good idea to show us the two sets of photos.
Things are definitely about a month behind in some places of the U.K.

Thank you Feverfew, I knew my garden was behind from last year but till these photos came up on my Facebook page, I hadn't realised by how much. The weather has been awful. Yesterday I had to take hubby for an eye test at a specialist and was sat in the car for an hour waiting and wind was so strong, my car was shaking. Want a bit of dry warmth now :-).

There's such a difference in the weather this year, we had a very dry March and April but today it's blowing a gale and torrential rain which we've had non stop since yesterday morning.
It's good to look back and compare different years.

Nice comparison, Jen. It definitely shows how far behind we are this spring! Your pics are lovely last year and this year, even though they’re aren’t fully there yet.

Sounds like you have had awful weather Hywel. At times we have been very wet and windy with a lot of hail storms. It's annoying as this year I promised myself that I would spray my Rose's better but been too wet.

Thank you Kate, I found it a bit of a shock to see such a difference in this year to last. I'm sitting here now with it raining outside and just want a bit of dry weather to get out in the garden lol.

Mine's the same, my plants are way smaller, alstroemeria indian summer was in flower this time last year, its only about 5 inches tall at the moment, no buds yet :-0 but its coming along hopefully will 'pop' soon lol

This is so interesting to see and compare. April was cold and dry and May has been wet and windy and with still low temperatures, the results show in every one of your photos.
Nothing is really thriving in our garden and is just about surviving! I do hope we get warmer days soon and everything gets a sunshine boost!
Aquilegias in particular have very small flowers and don't look good at all.

Daylily, my Indian summer is the same, in fact Alstroemeria is a swear word in my house at moment. Ordered 2 Lucinda back in April from Sarah Raven, when ordered it had delivery would be 1st week in May. Still not arrived and just said order was pending so I emailed them and got an auto response saying they are so busy that would not reply for 10 working days. So I found their Facebook page and commented there. Got a reply saying delivery will now not be till June. Can understand that it's due to weather but wasn't happy that hadn't been kept updated but they were quick enough to take my order and my money. Fingers crossed I do finally get them. At least the sun is out while I write this lol.

Thank you Wildrose, I just thought it was interesting to see the difference. All this rain hasn't helped either. Rained so hard yesterday that my primroses must have thought they were pond plants as my garden beds flooded. They are saying we are due a dry slightly warmer weekend, I hope so.

Your photos confirm what I thought about how slow it has been this year. Came back from hols today and plants have shot up in the last 10 days. Now like a green jungle.

Anget, Interesting isn't it. Knew garden was slower this year but hadn't realised how much. Hope you had a good holiday

It's frustrating isn't it when places don't deliver, hope you get them soon, as Anget said I think things are coming along nicely now at least it has given me more time this year to move a few things around :-))
