Melons on a trellis

I grew 3 Squash ‘Crown Prince’ in a large trough against a SE facing wall last summer, and while the fruits were a little disappointing (I only got 1 large and 2 small from 3 plants!), the monstrous leaves covered the wall, making my little courtyard garden feel like a jungle! My own take on Gunnera.
I don’t really fancy more of this squash in the autumn, but I’m trying a new variety of Melon called ‘Outdoor Wonder’ from Marshalls Seeds (UK). They’ve just germinated and I’m going to grow them the same way as my squash from last year. But I’ll be sad if the leaves aren’t as dramatic!
Might have to grow the butternut squash I got free from the BBC’s Dig In campaign, but seriously running out of room now.

I agree Wagger.....It must have been wonderful. Lovely fragrance and a mini jungle.....I wish you luck with your melons JHC.....Just think, you can sit out with the lovely fragrance and the mini jungle and just reach out your hand and pluck a melon to feast on. :o)

Must have been a lovely place to sit out in the evenings with that Nicotiana scent.
