I must surely be the least successful gardener I know. Whatever I try to grow is stricken by disease, strangled by weeds or eaten by pests. This is very frustrating since I have now, finally, a garden big enough to do something with.

I refuse to use any pesticides or anything that might harm the wildlife in the garden; I get a lot of pleasure from the birds that keep me company whilst I'm digging. At least they benefit from my efforts and regularly nest in various corners.

I enjoy using all the old tools I have collected; some of them (even the wheelbarrow) are Victorian.
