These are the root systems of lupins which were sewn the first week in May in a prepared seed drill these were then thinned and on yesterday I lifted them for transplanting in clients garden, for Somhairle who had posted question on lupins.

Yes thanks the blokes garden has deep fine soil, which this year we have grown sweet Williams hollyhocks, lupins and Delphiniums to restock the borders.

What big roots, they must have been strong plants.

Thanks yorklass and Hywell, the plants are grown in two beds which are also used for growing veg, the soil is very free draining and goes down quite a few spits of a spade, hence the good root systems, having said that whilst the roots look strong on these plants, the ones we did a few years back were far bigger and more advanced.
