tyres arriving slowly!!

i managed to bring home my first car load of tyres today, the scale of the task is dawning on me.
i was pricing how much it’s going to cost to fill the riased beds with soil/compost etc i’m looking at about £75-£95 a ton for top soil or spent mushroom compost, this is in ton bags theonly way to get it cheaper is to have it dumped in a pile out side the house. as i have basicly a shared drive and only way to dump it would be in the middle of the road i don’t think it’ll go down to well. plus i would then have to carry it through the living room.
what to do? mmmmmmmmm what to do?
tomorrow i will build.
i have also placed my first order for veg

It's going to be a lot of work but I bet you'll be pleased you did it. I had 2 lots of topsoil last year. One lot had added manure which made everything grow 4 times too big. lol

Hi Kat, if you are going to order more than one bag you would be as well to order some of each (spent mushroom compost and top soil) I know the veggies will appreciate it but as Hywel says the flowers might grow to be a LOT bigger than you imagined.
Good luck if you have to wheelbarrow it through your living room though. Pooooooo

the garden center man said not to use spent mushroom compost cause it's to chalky for our soil so i'm just going to buy bags of compost.
i had to wheel two ton of gravel through the house in the rain when we did the yard not only that but we couldn't take the back door off and the wheel barrow was the same width as the gap so we had no knuckles left by the end and a red door, lol

Ouch, that sounds painful and messy.

Yes Ian if I'd planted my vegies there they wouldn't have been such a disaster I don't think.
I hope your knuckles are better Kat :o)
