hi
my jersey plug plants arrived today and i must say they look in very good condition, i am rather nervous about raising them as my own attempts have resulted in them shrivelling up and dying at this stage,(quite small and a few leaves) i know its to do with the watering, not sure how often to water but i will have a go, i am going to plant them up in cell trays tomorrow so gonna hold my breath and hope! you would think out of 160 some will survive even for me!

If its Sunny or warm check them every day Kzzzh, they will probably need watering, but if its cool probably every couple of days, just keep an eye on them and make sure they dont dry out, you will probably loose some no matter what you do :) but having 160 of them, Youlle get over it Haha.. Good Luck..

The fun is in finding room for them all! I was moving things all over the place yesterday to make a) working space as it was drizzling, b) room to put them in the greenhouse as they do need TLC at this stage.
Good luck with them!

lol thanks i am a bit of a wimp and dreading doing them but looking forward to it too, typical woman! i will try watering from the bottom that seems a lot better than my huge watering can, its feast or famine with that.

Did they send a little stick to poke the plugs out of their modules? If not, cut a piece off one of those small 'canes'that just fits the hole, it makes it easy to push them out with no damage to the rootballs.

There's a firm called 'Jersey Plants Direct' who specialise in selling lots of plug-plants, Hywel. If you look in any Gardening Magazine, you will find them!
P.S. You are not thick! :-)

it is a cracking website www.jerseyplantsdirect.com and it cost me 9.99 including p&p for 160 impatiens, they are small and have to be grown on for about 4 weeks but you save a fortune, they sell bigger plug plants and many other plants, its worth a look. and no your not thick you just haven't heard of them, thats why i love this website it gives lots of advice and new ideas.

I ordered some plants from them a few years ago after replying to an ad in a Sunday newspaper. The plants I ordered never did arrive :( I don't remember now if they returned my money - I paid by cheque I think or perhaps by credit card I not sure now, - I just remember the firm & that my plants never arrived!

good luck kzzzzh, yes the secret is the watering. how big are your cell trays in relation to your plugs? I tend to go for a pot 2-3 times the size of the plug. make sure you soak your plugs well for a few hours before planting them so the root ball is already moist. then good light but avoid sun scorch. I water from the bottom so the roots draw up the water. I place the pots/trays in watre for about 1hr then take them out and let them drain.
hope this helps.
