Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival

Douglasville, GA holds a hydrangea festival every year, and this year I attended for the first time. Here are a few photos. We didn’t get to see all of the gardens because we just didn’t have the time, and it was also very very hot, about 95 degrees and not really pleasant weather for touring gardens.
Oakleaf hydrangea, H. quercifolia. I hope mine eventually look this good.
Sean & I in front of the H. quercifolia.
More garden views. I was so envious of these beautiful gardens & houses!

I can't cool down - my air conditioner is broken! When I had the fire in January the motor on the fan burned out. It's a pricey job to fix it but I hope to have it done next week. Thankfully I have a very high heat tolerance - I can't stand the cold - the house is surrounded by tall oaks & having high ceilings helps.
I love the oakleaf hydrangeas. I have 3 but really want a few more. The foliage is beautiful in the fall - stunning shades of red and purple.

Thanks for your lovely blog - I found this:
'Penny McHenry is the founder of the American Hydrangea Society. Her love for hydrangeas grew as a result of a friend sending her a hydrangea when she lost her daughter to a tragic death. She propagated that hydrangea The American Hydrangea Society has grown to have members across the United States and internationally. The "Penny Mac" Hydrangea was named for Penny McHenry' --Nice to see so much come from a tragic beginning.

95 degrees eh? WHEW !! experienced 105 degrees in Washington once. Very strange experience for an English person to retreat to the Botanical garden glass houses to get cool. Hoorah for air-conditioning !! New to me is the Oak leaf hydrangea, wonderful photo & setting of them in the shade of the mature trees. Thanks for sharing Lauram.

Ohhh! Lovely! Lots of ideas to pinch, er, sorry...inspire, yes, that's the word, inspirational! The oak leaf hydrangea is a gorgeous plant, very well behaved, and those two sitting in front of it make a lovely couple don't they!? They look very happy!! ;0) Lol!! Lovely blog Lauram! Hope you've cooled down!
