The first of many

Well here goes, my first ever blog! I have hundreds of photos to show so I will start by showing you my new little nature pond that we finished back in June 2014.
The council came and replaced nextdoor’s 6ft panel fencing which now means we have full view of the eyesore excuse for a garden! But on the plus side, I now have a lovely sunny border as opposed to a completely shady one. So we replanted the whole border with fruit trees and shrubs and wood chipped the entire length.
Then I discovered the cats loved to use it as a toilet and the blackbirds kept completely destroying the area! So the following spring, we replaced the chippings with gravel.
Here’s a peek at how long the border is (with the woodchips)
This is the little shady end from June 2014
June 2015 looking better with the fence painted
Here’s the pond June 2015, nice and filled out. Got thousands of snails in there and the dragon flies were amazing last year. A few pond skaters showed up too, but no frogs yet unfortunately.
I even got Sean to lay me some stepping stones to stop my feet getting soaked in the winter
So there you have it, the first little peek of my garden.

Thank you Steragram :) The garden is actually pretty full already, and I am in the process of re-doing a huge bed at the end of the garden. More blogs to follow :)

The pond is really attractive and I am sure that it won't be long before your local frogs find it. The border look good and the brick or sett edging really sets it off (no pun intended), whoever laid them made a really good job of it. The stepping stone pavers look good too and much more interesting set on the angle than straight.
Cats can be a nuisance when you have a nice soft area for them to dig into and the Blackbirds love to turn stuff over, it's amazing how far they can flick leaves, twigs and obviously bark chips too!
I had a two-tier wrought iron planter which had natural coir lining and the Blackbirds pulled it apart to use for nesting until the poor plants were balanced in mid air!

Your garden! And pond especially are magnificent! Looks lovely so far :)

Thankyou both :)
Honeysuckle - Since we got rid of the woodchip I am thankfully no longer at war with the blackbirds lol. The amount they were managing to move was unbelievable! They were literally making mounds over the edging onto the grass, huge mess everywhere everyday! It drove me potty! I have some plants waiting to be planted that are stored under the kitchen window and one pot in particular (I think it has bulbs in) has been destroyed, looks like someone has been using a spoon to eat my bulbs :( Pesky blackbirds, how can such a small beak cause such mischief lol :)

I'm late arriving Lily, playing catchup on this very wet and dreary day, lol, you have a lovely garden I do like your little pond and also the pavers set in the lawn also the brick ones you've used for the edges, makes for a lot easier time when running the mower over, I know as I have them here....

Thank you Lincslass :) Yes I agree the bricks and pavers sunk in make mowing that side much easier, find I don't need to strim the edges that much on that side - compared to the wooden edging that needs it every week.

That's a pretty border, with some very attractive plants. And with all that lawn you have so much scope for some nice big beds too. It will be nice to see how you develop it.
