Its not just the slugs its damn pigeons that are pecking my cabbages and caulis !! so i guess its netting being the best bet ?? any other suggestions that are cheap ?? apart from a dog that is !

Pigeons are very tempted by cabbages etc,so ,yes,netting is a good idea,before they eat the lot...
