Cosmos....the late bloomer

Today is Aug 24. In early May I planted Cosmos seeds in two large concrete planters on located on either side of a very old gate which is the entrance to my frog/water Lilly pond. Usually I would plant ferns in them but decided to do something different and used Cosmos instead reason being their location would be in full sun and their reasonably good height and lacy foliage. I had these plants staked in their respective pots to keep the long stems well supported to prevent bending. Today the Cosmos flowered. Each plant will produce 2-4 flowers and that’s it. I find that many people who plant Cosmos are disappointed because they don’t realize that Cosmos doesn’t produce flowers until late in the season and not many at that compared to others they may have in their garden. As for myself, this plant performed well for the reason i planted it for.
Well, I just finished watering and weeding the garden and my pup Charlie has given me a great idea of what to do with the rest of my day…

Gorgeous pink cosmos! I haven't tried it Loosestrife, I've thought about it, but with not a big garden, I'm picky...
Yep, Charlie definitely has the right idea on a summer afternoon in August...

Charlie has got the right idea then! lol
I have never had much luck with cosmos in this garden, but years ago in another garden , they got to the size of small trees! The stems were so thick too and plenty of flowers.
I didn't have a camera in those days so couldn't take a picture of them.
