16th Oct 08. Wonderful bright day, bit cold and windy, but glad to get out and do some tidying up. Been clipping the Hebe bush in corner of front garden. Taken in back in by about 8 to 10 inches, it still looks a big bush as I look at it out of the window.
Pulled a lot of straggly ivy out and the vinca stuff, still a lot to go at.
Shortened and shaped the cotoneaster tree, he doesn’t want to be a tree, but over time it will respond.
The Robina tree has had his autumn shaping and look rather well. There are some bare areas at the front where I have had to pull it back in to avoid passers by getting caught up in it.
Only two and a half bushes to go then it’s done – leaving the biggest to last.

I had lots of shrubs in my old garden. I used to enjoy cutting them back.
I bet all yours look nice for the winter now.
All the best, Hywel.

I'm still cutting back the perennials! My Photinia could do with a trim, too, but as it's a tree, I have to get the steps out. I don't like climbing up - so I put it off!

Sounds like a good days work. We have Robinia too but they are far too big to do anything to. We just let them grow and chop any overhanging branches that are in the way.
