making my own bird food

I dont know if any one else does this but seeming i have a lot of access to very cheap bread etc i find it a lot cheaper to make my own bird food than buying seeds and fat balls. Before i had all this cheap access it use to cost me nearly £5 a week to feed the birds. This way it only costs me about a £1 a week and they get four times more food:))))

Good idea to make your own bird food Mark. I hope you'll get lots of feathered friends visiting you this winter :o)

Hmm! I applaud the effort to feed the birds but I'm not sure about your ingredients.
Ham contains salt which is toxic to birds, bread has very little nutritional value and as for margarine....
The RSPB offers excellent advice on what to feed birds - including household scraps if you can't afford/don't want to buy prepared bird food.
