Yet again we have another space to fill!!

The two photos below show the before and after…..the tall conifer has been removed…it was often having to be trimmed to control it’s height….I’m very slowly reducing the work in the garden…..

Now we have a space….the very large Cistus loves it there and has grown tremendously….it could stretch out a little more or the alternative is to find a small shrub to plant beside it’s a very sunny, well drained bed. Will have to put on my thinking hat.

It looks amazing.

It looks great just as it is. But if you really want a replacement how abut an Ilex crenata? It stays very slender but would give you a bit of height without needing regular clipping. Grows very slowly.

Beautiful area of your gardening.I removed 2conifers when I moved here and everything round about grew better. My last garden was surrounded by conifers so didn’t want any in this one.

It looks nice now, I hope you can find something suitable to fill the gap :)

M. the Ilex has very small dark green leaves all year round - mine has never shown any tendency to turn red. There is a fastigiate berberis (Helmond Pillar) that does have red leaves but its nowhere near as narrow as the Ilex and doesn't grow as tall (about 5 feet)

Meadowland - check out pittosporum 'Tom Thumb.' Evergreen, dark foliage, grows three to four feet. I know it doesn't exceed this as mine is nearly 25 years old
