Usk Open Gardens.

Just the weather for a visit to Usk open gardens….We set off early incase there were traffic buildups.
You just couldn’t miss the long boundary hedge to the car park…Rosa Mundi….a few photos on.
Usk Town is in England only 30 minutes from us.The castle was built by a French man on a previously Roman date which has prehistoric connections. It has been a ruin since 1536 and overlooks the small town.
The 14th century banqueting Hall provided the shade plus an inviting cuppa and homemade Welsh cakes which were being made in front of us.
After a short rest we walked down to the Usk Square to start the tour of the open gardens.
There were 15 gardens in all…the following photos show parts we liked from each garden from contemporary, cottage to prairie styles.
Now these Box hares have given me an idea!
The following photo shows a small garden area where the owners had constructed a willow arbour with seating inside…so attractive.
The front garden, kerbside was a gravel/ prairie theme…Verbena Bonariensis looked very stately.
In one garden we spotted the aged lamps and a very pretty water feature.
How envious I am of these beautiful, healthy Hostas and apparently no slug pellets are used!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day,so interesting talking to fellow gardeners whose enthusiasm and
knowledge shone out.
This sign was quite amusing!

What a lovely day you had Julia, your photos are lovely and talking to other gardeners and sharing their wisdom is totally inspiring. Good luck with the topiary and thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed the history.

Thank you so much Callie...thankfully the sun wasn't too strong and there was a breeze...we ended up having a meal at a pub called The Nag's Head.

The gardens were lovely, a lot of work and dedication must have gone into getting them looking so good.
Usk is not in England :D

Hywel, as I wrote it I knew I had made an error.I think I was thinking of Hereford where I had visited the day before!!
Our county is actually Gloucestershire but our postal address is Monmouthshire!
I feel the garden owners must have worked very hard for weeks.

What a lovely place to visit, Julia! So many attractive sights to capture. The boxing hares are really inspiring, I bet you were pleased to see this feature!!!! That's your week sorted, getting ready for some intense and intricate topiary.
It must've been nice to have enjoyed some freshly made Welsh cakes too, all baked in front of you too.
Thanks for sharing your visit, a really lovely and interesting place, with much history.
