Oscar buzz for Wish 143

Absolutely nothing to do with gardening, but a British short film has been nominated for an Oscar and has quite a “buzz” around it.
It is called Wish 143, and it’s basic storyline is about the wish of a fifteen year old boy with terminal cancer who wants to have sex before he dies. However, at the heart of the film is his relationship with the priest who visits the childrens ward.
Having lost a friend at this age I found it tremendously touching. It has a little language, but nothing to make your hair curl too much! I think that it deserves to be watched, which is why I’ve done this blog. It lasts just 23 minutes and the link is below…….

Milky - so glad that you enjoyed it! I thought that it was everything that is great about British film making.

I hope it gets the oscar, but I can't watch sad films :o( Just can't cope with sadness.

Excellent ... Jim Carter such a good choice for the Priest. Like Milky I smiled at the start and was in tears later on ... a very insightful film.

Hywel - I don't think that I would call it a sad film. The subject matter is sad, but the underlying feel of the film was strangely positive.
Shirley - glad you enjoyed it too! I agree about Jim Carter - as I watched it I thought that he could be the new Pete Posslethwaite maybe. All the acting was top notch though.

That's good then, but I've seen enough illness and death in real life. Don't want to watch it on a film aswell. I'm pleased you and others enjoyed it though. It takes skill to act the part of a dying person. Nobody can know what it's like until it happens to them, so I hope it gets the Oscar :o)

I only watch things with a happy ending now, but it does sound a sweet touching film. I can cry at the drop of a hat. Thanks for the info, I'll pass it on and maybe gird my loins:-)

Bornagain - go for it! The film ends on a positive note, and the character of the priest should be a role model to all those who are considering ordination.
Come to think of it, I've become quite evangelical about this film! I emailed the link to all my friends and contacts, and have received only positive responses...
