I just want to give you 3 bloomin good reasons why FREECYCLE is great!!
One…. ITS FREE!!
shant bother with the other reaasons free is good enough.
With the money situation the way it is, I for one am really struggling.
Im not looking for sympathy Im here to tell you that it doesnt have to be this way.
My little girl has outgrown her cot bed…. FREECYCLE…. she now has a fab junior bed!! excellent condition, no major scuffs FREE
just bought her a new mattress (not safe to have a used)
Our chameleon"Red" outgrew his Vivarium…..FREECYCLE….
we coverted an old double wardrobe into a new house for him!! FREE
I ran out of seed trays and my budget would not stretch any further for more….FREECYCLE…. 1 black bin liner of trays and pots later and a lady who promises to ring when she has more….FREE!!
One mans junk is another mans treasure. Long gone are the days when I turn my nose up to something second hand (why I went that way after having hand me downs from my sister all my child life Il never know)
if it isnt free its too much!!
love to all

Hi Mookins.
I agree about freecycle, except that recently my local one has had a revamp and changed its site - I don't find it as easy now to post or view posts. Perhaps I should re-visit. I've freecycled quite a few bits and bobs in the past, it's a brilliant idea.

ooh yes I an how lovely they keep in touch, I gave away a plastic fish pond liner and the young lady emailed me to say thanks and what she was going to do with it, had a lovely chat.
Ohh yes Angiedoherty its brilliant Im linked to 3 for my area so I can try and grab a bargain for miles around (then get hubby to take me there)
hehehe
Have another look weeding maybe they freecycled the first look and swopped for the new one
hehehe

Yes, I'm a Freecycle addict too but GOY has taken over lately as first stop for any computer time. It's a really great idea although have started to notice people requesting really unrealistic items recently like 'can I borrow a car or a caravan for a week please'. That's hardly in keeping with the idea of keeping things out of landfill! The worst part is deciding who to give the items to if you have lots of replies.

I've never heard of it. I don't know if we have it here. I'll have to find out.

I'm on the same team as Hywel here, Mookins. Although the name Freecycle rings a bell, I don't think we have anything like it in this area of Cornwall. Even so, I think it's a great idea, and I'm so pleased that you're making such good use of it. If you ever need pots, give me a shout. I have lots..and lots...and lots...of pots!

I've found out there is a freecycle in 'Carmarthenshire' but since I live right on the eastern boundary I am nearer to places in other counties than to most places in 'Carmanthenshire'. I don't know if it will allow you to cross county boundaries. They are like frontiers around here, but they're in such stupid places.

Hywell, Freecyclers can come from anywhere and go anywhere, Really, like Mookins there are four in my local area and I'm a member of all of them. They only make sure your not a "bargain hunter !!" after free stuff to sell on, Booo-Hissss
I think it was Mookins who told me about it when I was going to make my own greenhouse. I never did see one on there but I've certainly had a few bargens since!!!
I have started asking for old PC bits to build complete systems and then put them back on Freecycle. I've so far managed to give two complete pc's away to people which otherwise would have ended up in the landfill.
Go for it mate, its well worth it.
H & K's Ian
PS. Mookins, thanks for introducing me, It's a great idea and I love it

We have freecycle over here too.....I think its a world wide sort of thing.
I'm a member of two different ones. One for Kamloops and one for Vernon where my parents live. I love it. I got a food processor the other week.....freebie and I've managed to give away quite a lot of perfectly good stuff which otherwise would have gone to the dump. It's a great idea.

Hi Mookins, Usually your allowed one 'wanted' item every 28 days here, but I got a lovely Email from the administraters of one of my groups telling me I could place this particuler 'wanted' add every week because it was "such a good idea"
(big grin)
I always go straight to my Freecycle's when I turn my pc on and read all the posts (even before I log on to GoY, but don't tell anyone Shhh. LOL) Only because it only takes a minute and I spend so much time here. (phew, got out of that one....just)
Good luck and keep Freecycling
PS. I intend sowing far to many seeds next year as these always go and any way we can get people interested in growing/gardening has to be a good idea?

Very interesting blog.....I'm gunna go and find out if there's one here..............
24 Jun, 2009
If there isnt a freecycle scheme near at hand why not start one its easy is'nt it Mookins? you just have to re-use anything that has outlived its normal use, like my old wheeliebin is now a waterbutt, things like that.
24 Jun, 2009
Paul,
If there isn't one in your area you could always start your own !!!!
Its not as frightening as it seems at first glance because it is backed by Yahoo and they have all the nessecary forms, web info etc. that you need. Also these groups are all linked together through Yahoo so there would be no problems getting the word out.
I think the only thing you have to supply is the time!!
That seems to be the only stumbling block, it might stop you getting on GoY!!! (God forbid LOL)
Good luck........Ian

yes definatly suggest to yahoo one for your area that would be brilliant

24 Jun, 2009
Yes Ian, you've hit the nail on the head. TIME. Thanks for the info though!
24 Jun, 2009
Do you have to register with Yahoo to be able to see the items for offer? I just wanted to have a look, but I couldn't work out how......it was just asking me to register with Yahoo.
25 Jun, 2009
Sorry Sid I think your right,
Just checked and yes I did have to register with Yahoo first but to be honest I have never had any emails, adverts or anything else like that from them.
Best wishes.........Ian

Brill idea Mookins, I wonder if we could do a regular update on what we've gifted/received through Freecycle ?
Will you be recycling his old tubs for seedlings in the spring? and can anyone suggest how to recycle crisp packets, we seem to be keeping Walkers fully employed single handedly here (no. one Digs, my son, has been and he can eat them for England if they ever made it an olympic sport LOL)
H & K's as usual...........Ian

Ok, thanks Ian.

OMG Mookins I thought had taken up another hobby in the keepfit area lol, did hear of it many years ago but then forgot it, must look it up again.
28 Jun, 2009
its fab
gotta be quick things go so fast think im too slow at typing so people seem to get there first a lot
x x x x
Ian
crisp wrappers if tuned inside out to show the shiny side are very good for tying to string of some sort and make bird scarers, although if your son is champion at eating them maybe you should donate the packets to farmers hehe
tubs are very good for loads of stuff, nails, screws and bolts. Childrens puzzle pieces when the boxes are ruined
the list is endless

Isn't Freecycle brill mookins? I have had a few things now, all second hand but totally usable and clean as a whistle. I have also had the opportunity to gift a few things to people as well. I think my fav was a dear old lady who's wheelchair had been STOLEN out of her back yard by kids and smashed up, I took her a one that mrs. digs had as a spare and she was so greatful she made us tea and gave us home made cake (yummie !) and let Holly run riot all over her garden which was set up for her grand kids with swing, slide etc.
She still insists that her daughter emails us and tells us all about whats been going on this week.
Like it says on the web site "saving the planet one gift at a time"
