Spring is nearing!

Today I saw the first sign that the harsh winter is finally coming to an end!
Some of my Daffodils from last year are poking up through the mulch and one of them has already bloomed:

In one of my other flowerbeds, the Hyacinths are starting to grow and bloom also:

I am SO glad to see some of these early signs because this winter has been the coldest and most severe that I can remember since the 1980’s..

One of my potted Croton Petra’s had died from the freeze and today, I recycled its’ pot and soil with the addition of a mix of worm castings, alfalfa meal, compost, green sand, lava-sand, coconut fiber, and peat-moss free organic potting soil. Into that super rich mixture I added a bunch of little 4 inch potted plants that were on sale at the local hardware store. Total cost? Only $5.00 and this is how it turned out:

I just love the variety in the container!
It was a nice productive Sunday playing in the dirt and tinkering in the backyard. About 4:00 PM, our old buddy, the Red-Tailed Hawk flew over the yard and I was able to get an outstanding shot of him:

We saw this big guy about a year ago in the woods next door and he is HUGE! He stands about 3 feet tall and has a wingspan of about 6 feet.
What a magnificent bird!

Ahhhh…. My kind of day!
