For the last two years I have been trying to grow some little Columbines in containers. I had three containers and two of them died last summer. :-(
I now have one left. It has been moved into the garage for the winter and is starting to thrive! I found out that these little guys like shade and the one in the garage is doing great! And to think, I used to place their pots out in full sun..
This little guy will be moving to my office indoors and watched carefully to see how he does.
It’s one of those “little plants” that mean a lot and I have been nursing this little thing for over two years in a container after growing it from seed.
It is looking beautiful after growing in low-light conditions and we’ll see how the little guy does indoors. I have a hunch that he’ll really take off now that his “light level” is correct!
I have thrown every organic “trick” that I have on this little plant and never considered that it might be a “shade plant”! {slapping his forehead!}
Ahh, we all make mistakes from time to time, huh?

I agree, Megan - mine seed themselves all over the garden - so there are some in every aspect. They don't seem to mind, do they?

What kind of temperature range do they like?
I have a great place outdoors that would provide morning sun up 'till about noon and indirect sunlight for the rest of the day.

well they are coming up even though we have had -12 which is a cold winter for us and we had snow for weeks too. So they are very hardy and cope with our summer warm [upper 20's if we are lucky. I have them in full sun and full shade so they are good do-ers.

I love Columbines (Aquilegia/Grann y Bonnet as my gran called them) and have some that get morning sun and afternoon shade, but, also some the opposite way. Haven't really noticed a difference in their flower power, they all seem happy wherever they are ! : o )
