Grannyb will be really proud of me it took me ages hidden in the greenery barely daring to breathe in case it flew off before I managed to take the shot but I got two clear pictures of this magnificent and maybe almost extinct bird hope you all like it:)

Wow Nana d, you must've been sat there ages trying to get this fantastic shot. Hope you don't get arrested by the Police for loitering with intent, or, peeping tomming
:-))

Excellent... does it have a bluebird mate, so they can produce babies... ?

...don't want them to become totally extinct ...

Yes Sheila I was sat there poised with my camera for ages...Thanks Paul and Lily. No Terratoone no mate I am afraid will have to hunt a few more charity shops to see if I can find him someone special:)

Thank goodness you didn't get your birds mixed up with your tits. No, no titter ye not, Easily done, many folk don't know the difference between a bluebird and a blue tit. Dare I say it especially on a cold dull day. tut tut you smutty lot, I was going to say the colour of the plumage on a cold grey day is very different. But the size of the tits differ from the blue bird, the blue tit being much smaller and this is the main criteria for identification between the species.

10 out of 10 for observation Granny D.

I will give details of the difference between northern tits and southern tits later.

Possibly enough ornithology for one night.

what are you on grannyb??

very carefully observed and well taken photo nana_d; you must be exhausted having trekked through forests, been soaked by waterfalls and over bleak mountains to get such a rare shot!

Thank you Grannyb praise from you is praise indeed unfortunately my tits have already gone south.....it will be all this bad weather we have been having here! Well Sticki I have to say it was a trek and then some and wearing all that garb and the purple rinse in my hair which Grannyb said was crucial to the camouflage.. but credit where credit's due it seemed to do the trick I almost had the bird eating out of my hand:)

Almost but not quite ~ just out of interest what did you feed it?
Am i right in thinking this is the lesser blue stonechat bird only discovered recently in Dorset?

25 Jul, 2011

Well Nana d they do say a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and your persistance and tenacity in capturing this rare bird on camera has certainly paid off for its given me a real belly laugh, with Grannyb`s contribution.

Hi Stickitoffee well you of all people should know what it feeds on............. Bluebird Toffee of course:) But you are right it is indeed the lesser blue stonechat! Hi Stroller thank you butwithout the mentoring from the great one herself Grannyb it would have been just a couple of pictures of............pots.

I dont think bluebird toffee is made anymore ~ maybe thats why the bird is nearly extinct!!??
They used to make them near here i think??

25 Jul, 2011

Ah thats a shame Sticki yep that will be why then:)

what a good thing you got the photo when you did!!

perhaps david attenborough or spring watch would like to see it?

25 Jul, 2011

Don't think that your allowed to expose Blue tits before the watershed. Although some of Spring watches episodes early in the season makes one question the ethos.

Sorry can't concentrate on a reply as Sol is snoring like an express train. Wish we had audio, it's unbelievable.

Sticki: what am I on Granny D only lives in Bournmouth. I think. No rainforest, mountains or waterfalls only moorland, Studland point and what thats b****y awful beer called or was it cider. Can't remember the dog and OH were too tipsy to take much note. I had to carry them home. But that's another story.

Sorry Stella Artois just called need to go, she's gets a bit tinny if you don't tip her up whilst cold.

PS. Sheila, peeping tomming up north has a very different meaning here. Think program "Band of Gold"

I was in two minds whether to look because I've got a phobia of birds lol .... but I thought I'd be brave and try to overcome it. What a RELIEF it was to see the Blue Bird LOL :D
