My Coastal Garden

Hi, We moved a couple of years ago to the coast, we are only a couple of minutes from the beach. Although my Husband and Myself love it some of the plants don’t.!!! So its abit of trial and error. My Dad and Granddad were both experts in gardening, they had their own allotment and sold there flowers far and wide, they were quite well known, but alas I was never really interested in gardening until recently. Although saying that I did learn one thing from them, and that was how to get a perfect tomatoe, in taste, texture and flavour. Since then I have never tasted a tomatoe that even comes close. This has been passed through three generations, so I did learn something after all! thank you for reading this.

Does seaweed/liquid seaweed come into it?

Contact Hywel, he is very good. Lives near the coast.
Years ago I read of a family who lived near the coast. The father had an allotment, and collected seaweed from the shore in his wheelbarrow every week. His daughter said his allotment was 18" higher than everyone elses, he grew all their vegetables. At that time there were numerous infections and all children caught them.
Whooping cough, measles etc.
She and her brothers and sisters were never ill.
After that I bought Calcified Seaweed for my allotment vegetables and used it all summer. Its made from the Seaweed that grows deep down in the sea so is expensive. Some garden centres dont stock it now.

I think there was a problem regarding its classification as 'organic ' Diane as some argued it's harvesting was harming the planet......I obviously don't know if it is but, I would still classify it as Organic if it has grown naturally!

I collect seaweed but never the growing plants, only what gets washed up on the beach. It certainly gives plants a boost. I think Hywel lives too far from the sea to collect seaweed Diane.
