Discovering Old Perithia, Corfu

At 406m above sea level in the north east of Corfu, Old Perithia, whilst it has an abundance of flora and fauna, is also home to a select number of trees, plants and flowers best suited to the region. It’s not the best height for olives, but a wonderful variety of fruit trees, wild herbs and plants you can use in cooking. For example the plants used to make ‘horta’ a favourite dish on the island, are often picked from the surrounding hillside.
Our garden, which we only planted last year, will evolve to include some of these many local and often wild flowers and plants. But we’re spoiled by the fact that there’s so much to see and enjoy around our home, which is also a boutique bed & breakfast set amidst the breathtaking views down to the sea and up to the highest mountain.
Over the coming months, we will post picture of plants both at home and in the surrounding countryside.
Perhaps you could help us identify them? :) We’d love to catalogue all of the flowers, trees and plants that surround us and will share what we find with all of our friends at growsonyou.com
