Fairies ARE Real

What kind of bug is this Mom. I shot a picture of these creatures on a stick last summer. There were thousands of these things on it and they all had their rears in the air waving around in unison. Like some Giant group Orgy.
Maybe they were just trying to get our attention. Kind of a Horton Hears a Who type thing.

It took me years to finally decide that these "Fairy Flies" are a type of Woolly Aphid. I'm not sure exactly what kind of Woolly Aphid, there are different kinds that have different host plants. Since I've never seen these "Fairy Flies" on a plant, I don't know what kind they are. They fly through the air like they're a tiny feather floating away.

If your creatures were waving their butts, they were probably releasing a pheromone to attract a mate........or else doing a sort of mating ritual dance. That must have been so funny to watch.

lovely... seems to run in the family!! I love the chrystaline wings, too.
Makes you feel you should pull out the magnifying glass to check for a smile and a wink! I've seen something similar to this but it was not flying...it was in leaf mold compost, just looked like a fuzzy fungus..which is what I thought it was.

Hi Lori, BuckeyeBoy is my son's best friend........he just calls me "mom". But yes, my son is a nature lover too.

I have a pic somewhere......I'll have to find it. It looks like fuzzy fungus on a stick but when you look closer, it's actually planthoppers with "fuzz" !
