Our ancient apple trees are a cross between eaters and cookers and only ripen late October.Guess who get most of them !

Didnt know that BB, that's why the good old varieties have a sour twist to them then.

Probably so Dawn...cannot begin to know how old our apple trees are..they are knarled and twisted ! The cottage is about 400 years old and a pic from 200 years ago revealed they were there then !

You're joking!!!! I hadnt a clue that they lived for so long, I'm amazed.
Do they have fruit this year? The pressure is on you now to keep them going, lol. So pleased that no-one has chopped them down - over the centuries!

No way will we ever consider chopping them down...not too healthy but still producing fruit so many years down the line. Would be criminal to chop down !!

Goodness no way ... we have some old apple trees the other side of our fence we took some of each one to an apple identifying day at a museum , they couldn,t identify them except to say they were very old , they said we could send them to a place were the could identify them at a cost of £5.00 each apple plus the weight of sending them , as they are not or trees we didn,t do it ...

We are growing clematis and honeysuckles around the bases of them now,and they are twisting around the trees.So even if they become hollow and stop producing fruit,they will still look good !
