Rhodochiton atrosanguineus

Rhodochiton atrosanguineus (Rhodochiton atrosanguineus (Rhodochiton))

This isn't hardy, so it's treated as an annual in the UK. It's a climber and I like it!

They got a bit overwhelmed by the sweetpeas, but they're doing OK. It's the first time I've grown them.

If you can train this horizontally on wires or whatever, Spritz, you get a fantastic effect with all the 'bells' hanging down. It is a fantastic plant, pity it is an annual.

I could have a try on next door's fence, then! Yes, I agree - shame it's an annual. I love it!

I used to grow them up canes in a pot at my old house & over winter them in the porch. Stupidly moved in the winter & had no conservatory/porch so I lost them.
Started fresh plants off this year (a little too late really) & put them in the ground, but they've done poorly.I still have one small plant left in a plug which I'll pot on & keep inside over the winter.
I gave one to a friend who moves it in over the winter & it's still going strong.

Well, mine won't survive - I can't dig them up...that's sad. :-((

Where do you get seeds from, Meanie? Or did you buy plugs, whch I did?

I got the seeds from an independant nursery.
However, for some reason the most vigorous plants that I've had have come from the seeds that I've collected.
Mine are so weak this year that I doubt if I'll get any seeds though.

Thanks - I'll keep an eye on mine and see if I can get the seeds...if there are any!
