Echinacea 'Sunrise'

Do you find the slugs go for all these new echinaceas spritz?

I didn't know echinacea came in yellow!

Is this one hardy? In the rush to produce lots of different echinacea varieties, I think one or two are borderline. Beautiful soft colour.

Andrew - not in the middle of my top border, no! Anyway, I suffer from snails, not slugs...they seem to have ignored it.

Louloubelle, it came through last winter just fine, so I reckon that means it MUST be hardy! :-)

My Echinacea seem to be very slow to get going. I put some roots in of 'White Swa'(I think) about 4 years ago but they are so slow to grow that each year I forget about them and I have to watch that they don't get swamped by other plants! I don't want to lose them.I wonder if they don't like my clay soil, although I didn't think that would be a problem for them.Do yours take a long while to emerge and grow each year SpritH?

I had a new one last year - that seems to have vanished :-( but the E. purpurea is just about to flower. Yes, it was slow - I went to search for it! These yellowy ones that went in last year flowered without me noticing that they had - in such a wide border, I missed them. LOL.

I'll try to remember next year and see what my 'White Swans' do. I planted them in June, in my new island bed, so it will be much easier to see.

I expected them to grow taller so I put them towards the back of the border and they are swamped. I might have to move them , but I'm reluctant to in case they take a long while to re establish!

Yes, my surviving E. purpurea is like that, too. I'm sure I had three to start with in there - there's only one now, though...maybe they're short-lived, as well?

...and why not? I really fancied a green one, but couldn't track one down this year....maybe in the future.

My sister has 'Green Envy'. I love 'Art's Pride' but it is definitely a little tricky to grow although I seem to manage it. It must like my Essex garden! It is scented too.

I'll have to watch out for those, Lou. I agree that Echinaceas are not easy - not quite sure why, though! Something to do with the right mix of sun/soil I think.

Definitely. They hate winter wet, like plenty of sun in the summer and require a top dressing of fertiliser and compost of some description at the start of the growing season. I also cover 'Art's Pride' over in the winter with compost.

LoBel thanks for your info re Echinaceas, I did wonder what I was not doing right.....is Arts Pride tender then?
